Description: I am born and raised in the U.S. where I received degrees from Syracuse University and the University of South Florida. My background is varied and includes policy studies and communication, as well as music performance. In 1997 I received my Ph.D. in educational research and measurement with a focus on organisational and leadership development. In 2001 I joined the faculty at Mid Sweden University focusing on school and leadership development.
Since 1993 my work has included both research about leadership development as well as participation in leadership development training programs, nationally (USA) and internationally. Among other things I have collaborated on the development of a theory of leadership generated from 10 years of research that is based on chaos and complexity theory and resulted in a book: Living on the edge of chaos: leading schools into the global age (Snyder, Acker-Hocevar, Snyder, 2000). In more recent years I have studied the role of technology in society and the impact it has on human communication and learning. In particular I am interested in the development of social networks and social cultures through e-communication as they relate to meaning making and learning. With a background in quality management, I have also been involved in the development of two benchmarking systems for leadership and school development.
